Dreaming of white-sand beaches, breathtaking waterfalls, and rich cultural heritage? Cebu offers all that, and knowing the best time to visit can make a big difference! Like most of the Philippines, Cebu has a tropical climate, meaning it has two main seasons: wet and dry. International travelers, however, are often more interested in travel seasons defined by the overall experience, not just the weather. In Cebu, there are three: the Dry Season, the Shoulder Season, and the Sinulog Festival, celebrated on the third Sunday of January.

How I Discovered My Ideal Cebu Getaway

On my first trip to Cebu, I thought it would be the dream destination for a white-sand beach fanatic like me. I imagined the beach would be less than an hour from the city. But, as I quickly learned, it wasn’t quite that close!

I visited during my annual work vacation in March (for three years, while employed by an international company). With a limited budget, I skipped the pricey resorts and headed for a public beach in Alcoy, about a three-hour drive from the city. It felt like stumbling upon a hidden paradise—we had the peaceful beach all to ourselves, far from the peak season crowds that usually arrive around April.

It’s amazing how Cebu transforms with each season. By planning my trips during quieter times, I found that I could still experience all the sun, beauty, and tranquility Cebu is known for—without the crowds and at a fraction of the cost!

From local guides sharing hidden island spots to meeting fellow travelers, each trip deepened my connection to Cebu’s vibrant community. Finding people who cherish Cebu’s blend of natural beauty, adventure, and culture made me feel more at home and introduced me to new experiences every time I returned—until I finally decided to call it home.

I want everyone to discover their Cebu, whether that’s in the local markets, on day hikes, or in quiet moments by the beach.
